RAD Ride to Gas Monkey

What a day, what a ride, and what an amazing group of people. The Gas Monkey ride was unique in the fact we had two groups heading out to the venue in Vanderbijlpark, one road and one adventure. Saturday morning dawned bright and beautiful, with the sun blazing and not a cloud in the sky. The adventure riders were happy because the first storm of the season had come the day before and we were looking forward to the reduction of dust because of that.

We met at RAD at 10:30, and after coffee and chats, Andy called us all together for a safety talk before we headed out for the ride. The group was to follow the same route until 14th Avenue and then split off, as we were to head onto the dirt from there and the road ride was to start meandering through the roads. We had 9 bikes and 10 rider on the dirt and 7 bikes and 10 people on road.

The adventure ride took us through some breathe taking country side, going over a rise and seeing the beautiful landscape spread out as far as the eye could see. We kept a safe following distance, but the rain had done its job and all though the group split into two as we road, the sweeper made sure no rider was left alone. Andy did a very good job of stopping at each turn, or cross roads and this gave all the riders a piece of mind. The group was always in good spirits and other than one top box trying to make a freedom break, and picked up by the back group it was a fun ride with laugh and jokes.

The road ride took a marvelous route with breath taking scenery at a pillion friendly pace, staying together as a group. Arnold did a good job of leading them through the windy route that took them off the beaten path to see a part of the country that the riders had not seen before. They arrived at Gas monkey at just after one, and were there to greet the adventure riders when they arrived.

The adventure ride arrived at Gas Monkey garage at 13:30 dirty and keen for the first cold drink, but with smiles and having enjoyed the ride. The Garage is amazing, the décor puts you right into an American style bar, and the food was delicious and huge. The one burger was so big it should’ve been ordered for the table, or a family of four. Sitting outside in the warm spring air, enjoying good food and great company is a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon, and the perfect end to a superb ride.

Thank you to everyone that joined and made it such a awesome experience.
